Wow!! What a difference a month makes!!! The vegetable gardens are in full gear, the fruit trees are loaded with fruit, and the grape vines have many clusters of teeny, tiny, grapes.
As I work in the gardens I never cease to be amazed at the speed the plants grow, and when we begin to harvest I am awed, and sometimes overwhelmed, by the abundance of food produced in the gardens.
While working in the gardens a favorite hymn often comes to mind, it is: We Plough the Fields and Scatter.
We plough the fields and scatter
The good seed on the land,
But it is fed and watered
By God's almighty hand:
He sends the snow in winter,
He sends the snow in winter,
The warmth to swell the grain,
The breezes and the sunshine,
And soft refreshing rain.

It truly is inspirational. What a delight. I can't think of many things that bring such tangible satisfaction. What a joy! Thanks for sharing. Marika
I can't tell from the pictures, how big is your garden? Ours is doing well. I harvested the first cucumbers yesterday. The peas are about 3 inches tall. It rained too, so things should really grow good the next few days.
We have three large gardens, each about 20 by 30, then a very long srip garden with corn growing in it, I don't know how long it is, but it takes a while to hoe,we also have a strawberry patch. We really enjoy gardening and find it to be a relaxing and rewarding activity.
We have to replant our cucumbers, I wish we had some to pick. Our peas are covered in blossoms so peas will be in the near future. We have had a lot of rain, finally we are going to have some hot Indiana weather and believe me the corn and tomatoes will be happy for it.
I am glad your garden is doing well, it is interesting to compare notes about gardens in Indiana and gardens in Alaska :)
Thanks Marika, it is really satisfying, and we really enjoy the "fruits of our labor" :)
Beautiful garden--but what I liked even better is your lovely porch that I spied in the background of the first picture!!
Hi Barb - We love our front porch, and spend a lot of time out there on the porch swing. The porch faces east, so it very pleasant in the late afternoon and evening.
